“Let it be known that on this 9th day of May, 2006 that Blake Crosby did, alone and unassisted, take an aerodyne into orbit and furthermore did land on the same runway without loss of blood or confidence, thereby completing first solo flight. In honour of this heroic feat of human suffering and endurance I place my hand and seal.” … says the certificate I got from Toronto Airways. They also gave me a mug!
The solo flight went great. I did two circuits with my FI, then she hopped out of the plane. Then I did a single circuit by my self. I wasn’t nervous at all just did what I needed to do. When I landed ATC gave me a “congratulations”.
So whats next? The next flight is going to be more circuits. First half will be with my FI where we will practice full flap landings (40° flaps), then the second hour will be solo. After that lesson, then its two lessons solo. Once thats done, then it’s off to the practice area for some new exercises! Too bad its raining all weekend :(
Congratulations.
Congrats on the solo.
If you follow the same syllabus as I did (which I see has echoed mine 1 for 1 so far, understandingly since Toronto Airways and CFA are affiliated) your next lessons would be like this:
– Couple of dual circuits, followed by a couple more solo.
– One flight entirely solo (standard landings)
– Soft field technique lesson dual
– 1 or 2 solo flights practicing soft field
– Short field technique lesson dual
– 1 or 2 solo flights practicing short field
….then after that, depart the curcuit to continue with the syllabus.
It sounds like the first two flights echo the above, but then you were told your heading back out of the circuit again?
Just curious if its split up more now, since that was definately a long boring stint in the circuit, I remember, and the above is the way I did it.
Hey!
Thanks!
I’m not sure if its more split up now or not. I remember my instructor mentioning that we’d be doing short/soft field stuff, but can’t remember if thats before heading to the practice area or after.
I’ll let you know! :)
Congrats!! I can wait for my solo, honestly thinking of going alone scares the crap out of me lol, but so far i’ve been going up with my instructor not really saying anything to me anymore, which means … its around the corner:S
Congratulations, Blake! The plane flies a lot better without the instructor, doesn’t it?

Congratulations Blake… may you fly smoothly into a new career :-)
